UNIT 4: INVENTION (3rd ESO)

What makes a good invention? What is the best way to present it to people? Difficult to say, isn't it? Well, after working with all the activities in this unit, it will be much easier!

To be ready to deal with this topic, it is necessary to revise/learn some vocabulary related to SCIENCE. These verb and noun collocations you can find on this QUIZLET will be very useful.

We studied the PAST PERFECT tense. This video explains it in a very clear way:

Need some extra practice? Here you have plenty:

The practice in the book includes a reference to the real inventor of crisps (yummy!). Yes, inventions are not only technological 馃槈! Why don't you take a break and watch this video about this delicious invention?

Once an invention is made, it is necessary to describe it to others. That's why we have studied some vocabulary for DESCRIBING PRODUCTS. This crossword will help you revise it:

Continuing this fascinating trip on inventions, we learned about Oohos. Watch this video to know more about this innovative and environmentally friendly product:

Among all these inventions, language has also created its own, like DEFINING RELATIVE CLAUSES, very useful to give essential information about a noun. Here you have some extra practice:

If you ever become an inventor and come up with a brilliant idea, you will certainly need to write A FORMAL LETTER to the company or people who can help you make your invention a reality. Check this video to make sure you write it in the best way possible:

After all you have seen in this unit, any inventors out there??? Who knows...

UNIT 4: SPEND! (2nd ESO)

Money, spending, shopping... We are sure these issues concern you, so the topic of this unit will be a rather interesting one.

Let's start by learning some very basic vocabulary:

Want to revise some MONEY VERBS? Just click on the words to access some flashcards that will help you do so.

Time to learn about QUANTIFIERS (some, any, a lot of, much, many...) so that you buy or sell the correct amounts... Here you have some extra practice:

Sometimes quantities are excessive and sometimes insufficient, that's why we have TOO MUCH/TOO MANY and (NOT) ENOUGH. Need more practice?

Then we studied ADVERBS of MANNER and how to form and use them.  This game may help you learn them quickly 馃槈:

This unit also revises something you may remember studying:
COMPARATIVE and SUPERLATIVE adjectives and how to use them in a sentence. Don't forget to practise them:

Make sure you also know how to compare using (NOT) AS... + ADJECTIVE + AS...

With this game, you can test your knowledge of comparatives/superlatives and your aim 馃徆!

Money can often be a source of problems. What do you do when you have a problem? Who do you talk to? Do you ask for advice? Watch this video to see how you can ask for and give advice:

We are almost finished! The WRITING of the unit is related to NOTES and MESSAGES. Try this EXERCISE

Remember we studied TOO and (NOT) ENOUGH? Lucky you, these words can also be used with ADJECTIVES 馃槈. Don't worry, here you have some further practice: test yourself with this KAHOOT

Now we are finished! Hope you are ready to carry out the unit project 馃捀馃挵馃!

UNIT 4: WHAT NEXT (4th ESO)

WDYT? What do you think you will be doing in a few years' time? I don't know about you yet, but I do know that I will definitely be doing many different things..., can you guess why?

Well, that's part future, so let's focus on the present, which implies helping you with your English. What about revising some of the new vocabulary studied related to FUTURE GOALS, PLANS and ASPIRATIONS? These flashcards will help you study it:

To talk about the FUTURE you are obviously going to need FUTURE TENSES. We already revised some in the STARTER UNIT, remember? Well, there's big news: there are more!!! Sounds like fun, doesn't it?

First we have the FUTURE CONTINUOUS tense. Need more practice? Here it goes...

EXERCISE 1

EXERCISE 2

EXERCISE 3

Need a break? You will love this game. Just click on the photo to start playing.

Hope you had fun, but now we have to revise another future tense: the FUTURE PERFECT. Again, here you have some practice:

Another game? What about playing darts? Just click on the photo:

After all this practice, you should be able to decide when to use each. You can start with this LIVEWORKSHEET. You can also try these activities:

By now, you must be masters of the future, so you will ace this game!! Beware! It contains all the future tenses studied so far!

Enough about tenses! Time for some new vocabulary, this time some common VERB + PREPOSITION combinations:

Did I say enough about the future? Ooops! My mistake Now you must revise how to use MODALS in the future. Well, to be honest, it's impossible, that's why you need to use other forms that include the meanings the modals convey:

ABILITY:
WILL / WON'T +  BE ABLE TO + INFINITIVE

OBLIGATION and NECESSITY:
WILL + HAVE TO / NEED TO + INFINITIVE

NO OBLIGATION / NO NECESSITY:
WON'T + + HAVE TO / NEED TO + INFINITIVE

Try this  EXERCISE  to practise them a bit.

When talking about the future, TIME CLAUSES are used a lot. That's why you must remember that the tense used in the time clause is the PRESENT SIMPLE.

This unit finishes with A FORMAL EMAIL. Maybe you will have to write quite a good number of them in the future, so you'd better be ready!

After all this hard work, I can only wish you a bright future ahead for you!

UNIT 3: MYSTERIES (4th ESO)

What makes a good mystery? This is the WDYT? question of the unit and not an easy one to answer. Whatever the possible explanations may be, the only true thing about mysteries is that we tend to be fascinated by them, so they clearly hide something... We'll try to find it out in this unit at the same time we learn some useful English to talk about this topic.

We will start by studying DESCRIPTIVE ADJECTIVES:

EXTREME ADJECTIVES will also be useful to describe a good mystery. Try this activity:

One of the first mysteries we learn about is that of the Rapa Nui statues. This video gives interesting information:

When talking about mysteries, SPECULATING or MAKING GUESSES/DEDUCTIONS is going to become essential. That's why we need to study MODAL VERBS OF DEDUCTION. Here you have some extra practice:
