AND THE WINNER IS...

Today is Halloween!!! And we cannot think of a better way to celebrate it than to announce the winner of the VI Halloween Memes/Gifs Competition!

This is the winning meme:

Why? Because it clearly shows the teachers' desperation when we see that students make the same mistake once and again. The mistake could be any, not just that in the meme: *I have 16 years old, *Peter work in a bank, *My from is Spanish... Besides, the design of the meme shows the transition from a peaceful situation to a really spooky one at the end, in which teachers want to tear their heads off! Even the font type is different and much creepier! That's the Halloween spirit!

And the author is Leo Durrer (2nd ESO). Here he is, with the prize:

And here we have the rest of the participants, who also got a "no-homework pass" and a spooky but yummy/mummy treat:

Javier and Ismael couldn't attend the prize giving ceremony because they had an exam (things that happen when you are in 2nd bach 馃槶). Don't worry, they got their presents too:

And the rest of the students had a surprise too: lots of Halloween balloons to play with:

This is the end of the Halloween celebrations at school, but we have a loooong weekend ahead and tonight is Halloween, so you can still celebrate it a bit more with your friends. Have fun!!!

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

UNIT 1: AMAZING PEOPLE (3rd ESO)

This unit is focused on answering the question: who inspires you? All the activities will lead you to answer it in a special way, as you will see...

DESCRIBING PEOPLE

To talk about that inspiring person, you will need lots of adjectives. They will help you talk about that person's personal qualities.  Here you have a matching activity to practise the ones studied:

We also revised the SIMPLE PAST TENSE and studied the PAST CONTINUOUS. Here you have some extra practice:

Need a break? Why don't you watch this video about how the Moken kids can see under the water? There is an exercise in the book that tells you about them.

HELPING OTHERS
Again some new vocabulary, this time related to the different ways in which we can help people. Here you have some practice:

This can be a bit tricky, but with some extra practice you will ace it!

Finally, we studied some linking words (because, so, although) you can use to write a profile. Here you have some practice:

Hope all this has helped you to be able to answer the question we started the unit with:

UNIT 1: MAKING MUSIC (4th ESO)

We are sure all students will like the topic of this unit: who doesn't like music? It brings so many positive things...

The WDYT? question is an interesting one: How can music bring people together? There are many answers and you will find out some while working with this unit. Let's see an example: in the following video you will see lots of famous artists who got together to sing the song "We Are the World"  written by Michael Jackson and Lionel Ritchie in 1985 to raise funds to help with the famine that was devastating Ethiopia at the time.

To talk about music, we need to refresh some vocabulary. Here you have a matching activity to practise it:

Time to learn a new verbal tense: the PRESENT PERFECT CONTINUOUS. Here you have some practice:

EXERCISE 1

EXERCISE 2

EXERCISE 3

EXERCISE 4

Need a break? Try this GAME, especially if you like pizza 馃槈!

Now, you should get back to work and make sure you know when to use the PRESENT PERFECT SIMPLE or the CONTINUOUS FORM. Need more practice?

PRESENT PERFECT SIMPLE AND CONTINUOUS

What about learning vocabulary related to FEELINGS AND EMOTIONS?
These FLASHCARDS will help you.

Time to study something that may be new for many: QUESTION TAGS. Here you have some extra practice:

Tired? Try this memory game:

Questions are quite tricky in English, aren't they? Well, imagine including prepositions in them, it becomes a nightmare! Don't worry, here you have some extra practice;

The writing of the unit is  A REVIEW (of a concert or music festival). If you need extra help, you can try this PRACTICE.

That was a lot of work, wasn't it? Let's finish with some music, the same way we started, to liven up,  things a bit 馃槈! Here you have a more recent version of the song we started this post with. This time the purpose was to help people in Haiti, who suffered a terrible earthquake in 2010.

LITERATURE AND CULTURE LESSONS ABOUT THE UK AND IRELAND

Last week, on Friday 6th October, all the students at the school (except those in 2nd bach who are really busy in their last year at school and cannot spare any time at all) attended different lessons that helped them learn English in a different (and much more fun!) way.

Thanks to Burlington Books, who brought Damien to our school, and for free 馃槈, students learnt about...

GHOSTS AND LEGENDS:

IRELAND:

ENGLISH LITERATURE:

BRITAIN:

Only two students chose to use the "calling my mum" lifeline. It was so much fun 馃槀: Damien called his mum and the students talked to her to find out what the correct answer was. They were so shocked!!!

Students really enjoyed the activity, so we are just looking forward to repeating again!
