THIRD TERM SPEAKING: A FREE PRESENTATION (2nd BACH A)

As we agreed in class, this term your SPEAKING TEST will be a rather open one. You must prepare a PRESENTATION about a topic you are keen on and then present it to the rest of the class. It could be anything: a past trip, a film or book you have enjoyed, a sport you do, a hobby... It should last between 5 and 10 minutes.

When preparing it, make sure that you follow a logical order. The basic INTRODUCTION - BODY - CONCLUSION/ROUND-UP can be enough, but that will depend on the topic you choose...

Here you have the RUBRIC I will use to grade your presentation. Notice that the presentation itself will also be assessed. You can use any app (PowerPoint, Genially, Canva...), but check that you can show it in class. If you can't, all your work will have been pointless. Once you have it, you should upload it to the folder I have created in Teams: if you can see it there, we will be able to see it in class.

OPPOSITES and CONTRASTS

Learning new vocabulary may be one of the most difficult things when studying a foreign language. If, when learning a new word, you also learn the opposite one, you can kill two birds with one stone. And this is what this week's language pill is about: OPPOSITES and CONTRASTS.

Here you have a beautiful song that you may find familiar. Listen to it and, at the same time you enjoy its beauty, try to write down the opposites it includes.

The great Charles Aznavour...

How many opposites did you get? Do you need some help? Here you can see all, hidden in this word cloud:

Did you know the song? It is part of the soundtrack of a very popular romantic comedy: "Notting Hill", with Julia Roberts and Hugh Grant.

Want to enjoy the song again and see a bit of the film? Here you have...

This woman is... International Women's Day 8th March

Every year we try to make our students reflect on what they can do to make gender  equality something real.

This year we wanted them to focus on something they, and probably most of us, take for granted: what many women in our lives have done, normally in an unnoticed way, for us.

We asked them to prepare some cards about an important woman in their lives and explain why these women mean so much for them.

You will find many moving stories, full of love and dedication to others. You will also notice that grandmas are the most mentioned... quite curious, isn't it?

The original cards have been sent to the "Asociación de Mujeres SANTANA", which is going to prepare an exhibition to celebrate International Women's Day. Hope they like our small contribution.

Again, we want to thank all the students who took part in the activity. You are the ones who will make the future a better one and participating in this type of activities may help you with it.

Dates in English

Dates:

En inglés existen 2 tipos de formatos de fecha, uno usado en Gran Bretaña (y países de influencia) y el otro usado en Estados Unidos. El británico es similar al español, pero el americano es un poco distinto: se coloca el mes antes que el día.

We write the date in English in different ways. In British English we write the day of the month first, then the month (starting with a capital letter) and then the year. In American English, the month of the date comes before the day and year. We ask the date or about dates in several ways. In spoken English we can add the (+ ordinal) and of (+month) when we reply. Can you explain the joke here, in the light of the explanation?
