SECOND TERM SPEAKING - 2nd ESO BILGINGUAL GROUP

This term you will have to talk about two topics for at least 1 minute. The possible topics appear in the boxes below.

I will give you a "PASS BOX" chance, but only one 馃槈!!

2ND YEAR NON-BILINGUAL A AND B: SPEAKING EXAM 2ND TERM

For this second term you will have to speak for around a minute about one of these topics. The app below will decide which topic for you.

DON'T GET ME WRONG!!!

This popular song from the 1980s was written by Chrissie Hynde, vocalist of The Pretenders, for his friend John McEnroe, the popular tennis player. Click on the image below and listen to the song while watching its official video, a tribute to a TV spy series from the 1960s, The Avengers.

As you must have guessed by now, the English pill is in the chorus of the song:

Don't get me wrong! (No me malinterpretes...)

People say this when they want to make sure that someone understands their comments correctly, especially when they are criticizing something. It is often used when you think someone may understand your remarks wrongly, or be offended y them.

Don’t get me wrong, I think this is a good restaurant but they should have better service

or

Don't get me wrong, I like Janet, but she can be a little bossy sometimes

TO HAVE A CRUSH ON SOMEONE

Do you have a crush on someone? Have you celebrated Saint Valentine's Day?

The expression "to have a crush on someone" means that you like that person very much in a romantic way and probably would like him/her to be your Valentine:

Elvis Presley was a massive star of his time; he was so popular that many young women had a crush on him

In a completely different context "crush"  means "to press something very hard so that it is broken or its shape is destroyed":

His arm was badly crushed in the car accident.

COUNT ON ME

Prepositions in English can be a nightmare for students. You think of the preposition used in Spanish and want to use the corresponding  one in English, but that doesn't always work.

This week's language pill shows one of those misleading examples. Watch the video, enjoy the beautiful song  and see that the verb COUNT is followed by the preposition ON:

SUBJECT + COUNT + ON + SOMEBODY

(meaning: you can rely on me, I won't let you down)

Apart from that, this song is a perfect example of the basic form of the  FIRST CONDITIONAL in English, used to talk about perfectly possible situations. If the situation mentioned in the conditional sentence happens, the situation mentioned in the main clause will happen:

[ IF + PRESENT SIMPLE ] , [ WILL FUTURE ]

You can see all the conditionals used in the song in this video, which includes the lyrics both in Spanish and English.

To sum up, what Bruno Mars is saying in this song is that if anything goes wrong, they can count on him, they can rely on him.

You can always count on language pills to learn something new 馃槈!

2ND BACHILLER: SYMBALOO FOR UNIT 4

If I think about music, the first image which comes to my mind is a cassette. Now they might be seen as some kind of "vintage stuff" but in the old times having a Sony walkman and some cassettes by your favourite bands was a dream come true: you could take your favourite music anywhere with you!!!

However, every dream has its hurdles and cassettes were not an exception. Anyway,  nothing that a pencil or a Bic ballpen could not solve!!!

Well, you already know how it works. Click on the image below and find a variety of resources for unit 4: "Sounds good!"
